Con la excepción de Alabama, Carolina del Sur y Georgia, no hay otro estado que prohíba el ingreso de los estudiantes indocumentados a la universidad si son aceptados.
Dicho esto, algunos estados te hacen el alcance de la universidad más difícil financieramente. Como ya mencionado, los alumnos indocumentados no pueden recibir ayuda económica federal, y en algunos estados, los estudiantes indocumentados no pueden obtener ayuda económica estatal tampoco. Otros estados sí les conceden acceso a algunos o todos los programas de ayuda económica.
¿Cuáles estados revisan las solicitudes de los estudiantes indocumentados a sus universidades públicas pero no les ofrecen ayuda económica?
Hay 26 estados que permiten el ingreso de los estudiantes indocumentados a los sistemas de universidades estatales pero no los apoyan económicamente (aun si estos estudiantes viven o completan la escuela secundaria en el mismo estado). Estos estados disuaden a los estudiantes indocumentados de solicitar el ingreso con barreras financieras; típicamente el costo de matrícula para los no residentes de un estado es más del doble de costo de matrícula que para los residentes, según data del College Board.

¿Cuáles estados ofrecen ayuda económica estatal a los estudiantes indocumentados?
Algunos estados y sistemas de universidad permiten que los estudiantes indocumentados accedan al costo de matrícula igual (es decir que los indocumentados que viven en un cierto estado son aptos para pagar el mismo costo de matrícula que pagan los residentes legales del estado). Para cumplir los requisitos para el mismo costo de matrícula, un estudiante indocumentado tiene que proveer una dirección estatal, haber obtenido un número de seguridad social a través de DACA, haber asistido a una escuela secundaria en el mismo estado por un cierto período de tiempo (usualmente de uno a cuatro años) y haberse graduado o recibido un diploma en el estado.
Algunos de estos estados también ofrecen becas estatales a los estudiantes indocumentados. El acceso de esta ayuda requiere de que el estudiante llene la Solicitud Gratuita de Ayuda Federal para Estudiantes (FAFSA, por sus siglas en inglés). La reforma inmigratoria es un tema controvertido. Algunos estados cambian o revocan su legislación cada año. Continúa investigando las políticas en tu estado. Es posible que salgan nuevas propuestas de ley que cambiarían la postura de tu estado en relación con tu aptitud de ingreso y ayuda económica, incluso el costo de matrícula y las becas estatales.
¿Cómo averiguo si una universidad privada considera las aplicaciones de los estudiantes indocumentados?
Las universidades privadas hacen sus propias políticas de ingreso. La única manera de averiguar la postura en relación con los estudiantes indocumentados de una cierta universidad es de contactar a la universidad directamente. Debe también indicar si los estudiantes indocumentados tienen acceso a las becas universitarias.

Como estudiante indocumentado, tú no tienes acceso a la ayuda económica federal.
